11 Lacing Craft For Kids
11 Lacing Craft For Kids
If you’re like me, then you love to find new ways to keep your kids engaged and learning.
I get bored with the same old crafts and games that we’ve done before. So when I came across these lacing cards, I knew my kids would love them!
Tools Of The Trade
The tools of the trade are all items that you will need to create some seriously impressive lacing cards.
You can purchase most of these items at a craft store or online, but if you’re looking for something more eco-friendly, like us!
Lacing Cards
These are often made out of paper or cardstock and come in different shapes and sizes. They usually have holes punched throughout them so that kids can thread their ribbon through as they go.
Lacing Ribbons
These look just like regular ribbons except they come already with holes in them so there’s no need to punch them yourself. You should be able to find these in any color under the sun!
Lacing Pencils
These tools make it easier for your little one (or someone with arthritis) because they have larger handles which makes grasping easy and comfortable.
Plus, they don’t require sharpening because needles are already attached! Bonus points if you get one with a magnifying glass at its tip so little eyes can see better when working on fine details.”
Ruffled Ribbon Flowers
Materials.
- ribbon, any color, and width you want
- scissors
- glue
Instructions.
Cut a piece of ribbon about 12 inches long (you can make it longer or shorter depending on how big you want your flower).
Glue down one end of the ribbon to a piece of paper or cardboard so that the glued side is facing up and flat (this will be your petal).
Cut out around it using small scissors and let it dry for an hour or two until firm (if you have time, let them dry overnight). To create another layer, repeat steps 1-3 with another piece of ribbon (for example, if you cut out one layer in red then repeat with green).
Continue adding layers until they are all done! When finished making all your flowers do not throw out the scraps because now we are going to make bows!
Silhouette Cards
A silhouette card is a fun way to make use of that stack of black and white photos you’ve taken over the years.
Silhouette cards are simple and easy to create, and they can be displayed in your home or used as a gift for someone special.
To make a silhouette card.
Cut a photo into the shape of an animal, flower, or another object with scissors or an X-Acto knife. Make sure it’s proportionate to the size of your paper; otherwise, it won’t fit!
Glue your cut out onto colored paper (or let your child do it). If possible, use spray adhesive so it stays put when handled later on (this also means less mess!).
Cut out small pieces of tissue paper in shades you like; even just one shade will look great on this type of display! Use double-sided tape to attach these shapes around corners or along sides.
you’ll want them to stand out from behind whatever else might be going on behind them but still remain visible from all angles without being too bright or distracting from what’s happening up front where people see it most often anyway.”
Faux Stained Glass Lacing Cards
You will need.
- cardstock (any color)
- cookie cutter in the shape of your choice
- hole punch (optional)
- embroidery floss or lacing cord (lacing cord is thicker and easier for kids to lace with)
- Ribbon for tying ends of lacing cord together (optional)
To make.
Cut two pieces of cardstock. Use a cookie cutter to trace shapes onto one piece of cardstock, then cut out the shapes with scissors or an X-Acto knife.
Use an alphabet stamp set to decorate your second piece of cardstock if you’d like! Punch holes along each edge of both pieces using a hole punch (if you don’t have one handy at home, this step can be skipped).
Thread your lacing cord through all the holes on both pieces at once—you’ll probably want to use a needle here if this isn’t already built into what you’re using as lacing material—and tie off each end separately with ribbon if desired; do not cut off extra length beyond this point!
(Optional). Add beads and sequins around any edges that aren’t decorated yet—this makes it look really cool when light hits them!
Lacing Hearts
Lacing hearts are a fun and easy way to help your child learn about shapes, colors, and fractions.
Use lacing hearts for children as young as kindergarten age or older.
What You Will Need:
- Lace or ribbon
- Scissors
- (optional) pencils, crayons, markers or paint
Patterned Cards
Patterned cards are a great way to introduce lacing to your child. These cards have shapes and colors on the top, and then they have the same shapes and colors on the bottom.
This will help your child learn letters and numbers while they are learning how to lace!
These are also great for kids who want to expand their knowledge of shapes. You can teach them about all sorts of different objects by showing them pictures of those objects as well as what they look like when they’re in shape form (i.e., circle, triangle).
You could even get creative with this one—I’ve seen some patterned cards where there were pictures of food items or animals instead of just basic geometric shapes!
Polygon Lacing Cards
To make this lacing card, you’ll need.
- a piece of paper (or cardboard)
- 5 different colored rubber bands or yarns
- scissors
To make the holes in your lacing cards, first, measure out a spacing that is 1/2 inch apart. Then use a pencil to draw lines connecting the dots.
Cut along these lines to make holes for lacing. When cutting out this kind of shape, it’s helpful if you cut all four sides at once so that they are all exactly even and look nice when finished!

Dino-mite Dino Lacing Card!
This is a great lacing card for kids of all ages! It features dinosaurs, and you can choose from various colors and shapes.
The best part about this lacing card is that it’s really easy to make. All you need are some paper plates and markers!
To make this Dino-mite Dino Lacing Card.
Take five paper plates and cut them in half so that each one has two halves (you’ll end up with ten).
Draw dinosaur designs on the pieces of the paper plate with markers or crayons (you can also write names if you want). You can even use stickers if your child likes dinosaurs!
Cut out the designs by folding along the lines drawn by yourself or someone else (if applicable). When done cutting out all the pieces, pair each set together like puzzle pieces so they fit together perfectly when put into a stack during playtime or school assignments involving arts & crafts projects such as painting canvas boards with paintbrushes dipped into watercolor paints; sewing clothes using needles threaded through heavy threads tied onto lengths of rope tied around wrists/ankles; etcetera…

Fruit-lacing cards are a fun way to get kids to eat fruit. You can make these cards out of scrapbooking paper or craft paper in any color you want.
Just cut the square into a rectangle shape, then fold it into fourths like in the picture below. Then you can decorate them with markers, stickers, or anything else you have lying around your house!
