11 Happy New Year Craft For Kids
11 Happy New Year Craft For Kids
The New Year is just around the corner, and that means it’s time to start planning your family’s celebration.
One of my favorite things to do with my kids on New Year’s Eve is a craft! These fun projects are perfect for kids who want to celebrate in style. And they’re all easy enough that even your youngest crafter can manage them.
DIY Snow Globe
What you need.
- A bottle
- Water, sugar, and food coloring (in whatever color you want)
Plastic figurines in your preferred design and size(s) of choice. We used a snowman, penguin, and Santa Claus.
If you want to make your own plastic figurines using polymer clay or air-dry clays, that’s fine too! You can use any type of glass jar as long as it has a lid that can be closed tightly—think mason jars with lids.
Glitter Wine Glasses
What you need.
- 2 wine glasses
- 1/2 cup of glitter (any color)
What to do.
Put the glitter in one glass and mix thoroughly so it’s all coated with glitter. Pour out any extra into another container that you can keep for later projects!
Add a few tablespoons of water to the other glass and stir until completely mixed together, then set aside to dry overnight or at least several hours before putting it back in your favorite wine glass!
New Years Eve Confetti Balloons
Materials.
- Balloons
I recommend using 12-inch latex balloons. You want to use the largest balloons you can find so they’re easier to fill with confetti and decorate with.
- Confetti
I like using glittery gold confetti because it really makes your party look festive! But, any color will work just fine!
- Tape
If you choose to make these as a party favor or gift idea, be sure you have plenty of tape on hand! We used masking tape for our demonstration but Scotch tape would also work well if you want something more durable.
Confetti Launcher
Materials.
- Cardboard tube (we used a toilet paper roll)
- Duct tape or masking tape
- Printed out confetti (you can make your own, or simply use this template)
Steps.
Cut the length of cardboard tubing to about 4 inches long. This is the launcher portion of your confetti launcher.
Use duct tape or masking tape to secure two small pieces of cardboard together to create a handle for the launcher. Tape them securely so that they don’t fall apart when you use it!
Print out some confetti and cut them into squares about 1 inch on each side (or just print our template). You can also just cut up some newspaper if you don’t have access to printer paper or cardstock yet! Store these in an airtight container until ready for use with step 4 below.
Take your taped-together piece from above, place one end up against your mouth on the top and wrap one hand around it as shown above.
Hold onto both sides securely by wrapping around with more duct tape as necessary until both sides feel secure enough so they won’t slip while using them later! Then blow into one end while holding onto the other ends tightly – woosh!! Your very own homemade confetti launcher made out of simple materials found around home)
Firework Craft for Kids
Fireworks are a great way to celebrate the New Year.
Kids can make their own fireworks using this craft, which is a fun project for them.
You will need.
- Paper plates (one per child)
- Markers or crayons (one per child)
- Paper (enough for each child to cut out 5 squares about 4 inches by 4 inches)
Kid’s New Year’s Eve Pinata
A Pinata is a hollow container filled with candy, toys, and surprises.
Once the Pinata is broken open by whacking it with a stick, all the goodies spill out for everyone to enjoy! Do you know what’s inside?
Ingredients.
- A 3-liter soda bottle (about 2 lbs of sugar)
- Sticks or dowels – use plastic ones that don’t break easily or have sharp edges (10 pieces)
- Cellophane paper – 1 square meter (for covering) You can also use construction paper or any type of sturdy paper that will hold its shape when stretched over the bottle opening.
Rainbow Starter Hats
Materials.
1-2 rolls of colorful construction paper, depending on the size of the hat you want to make.
A sheet of white paper (or an old white t-shirt, or newspaper) and a black marker for each child to draw their designs on. (You can also use masking tape to cover the front of the hat if you don’t have access to an old t-shirt.)
Scissors for cutting out your templates – 1 large circle template for each kid + one extra in case someone wants their own design! You’ll also need one small circle for each kid plus one spare if they want their own design too…and a small strip about 10cm long and 3cm wide will be enough space for most people’s name tags – so that’s another thing I’d recommend having enough of 🙂
Countdown Wands
Countdown Wands are a fun way to count down to the new year.
They can be used for a countdown for New Year’s Eve, but you can also use them for any other special occasion where counting down is appropriate.
You will need.
- Sticks from nature (such as twigs or branches)
- Paint, markers, or stickers (optional)
Gather your materials together and find a nice spot outside where you have space to work on your wands.
If there is snow on the ground, this is perfect because it will keep your wand clean while you work with it. You can also use newspaper underneath if necessary.
New Year’s Eve Handprint Banner
With a little bit of cardboard, you can create a beautiful handprint decoration for your home.
Here’s what you’ll need to gather.
- A piece of thick cardboard or heavy poster board (about 12 x 18 inches)
- Paint (white, black, and red)
- Paintbrushes for each color
- Scissors
Begin by using the template provided here to cut out two circles from the poster board. You may have to enlarge or reduce it depending on the size of your children’s hands if they are younger or older than 4 years old. Next, paint one circle with white paint and let it dry completely before moving forward with the next step!
Starlight Toss Game
A starlight toss game is a fun craft for kids to make and play. To play this game, you need.
Scissors, tape or glue gun, and a glue stick.
A large jar (we used a recycled peanut butter jar).
Glow sticks with long handles (also known as glow bracelets) and pony beads (the round kind).
To Make Your Own Game, Follow These Steps
Cut off the top half inch of each glow stick and discard it. You’ll be left with two pieces of glowing plastic that look like sticks!
Attach one end of each remaining piece onto a pony bead using tape or glue; then do the same thing on its other side so they’re connected in two places now instead of just one pointy bit at one end like before!
Put many beads into your jar so they form an obstacle course for players when it’s time for them to try tossing their glowing balls through them all before time runs out!
