11 Jellyfish Craft For Kids

11 Jellyfish Craft For Kids

With summer in full swing and so many families spending more time at home, there’s no better time to learn how to make jellyfish.

Making jellyfish is a fun way for parents to creatively connect with their kids and teach them about the ocean at the same time! These fun DIY crafts are also educational activities that will help keep your kids’ minds occupied and expand their creativity.

Jellyfish are not only beautiful ocean creatures, but they’re also fairly easy to craft. Here’s everything you need to know about making jellyfish out of paper plates, cotton balls, pasta, or even jello!

Paper Plate Jellyfish

This paper plate jellyfish is a fun and easy craft for kids. The best part about this craft is that you can make a variety of different jellyfish designs by combining different colors and patterns.

For example, you can make a blue-and-pink striped jellyfish or a black-and-white polka dot jellyfish with sequins as eyes.

You can also use feathers to decorate your paper plate into a paper plate seahorse or sea turtle!

Puffy Paint Jellyfish

Materials

  • Puffy paint in the color of your choice
  • Paintbrush
  • White cardstock paper, cut into 3 x 5-inch rectangles (or you can use a pre-made craft foam shape)

Instructions

Pour puffy paint into a tray or dish. Dip one end of your jellyfish’s tentacles into the puffy paint and smudge them against the table to create a marbled effect.

Repeat on another side if desired! Set aside to dry for about 15 minutes before moving on to decorating with more puffy paint.

Handprint Jellyfish

  • Use white paint for the body of the jellyfish.
  • Use blue paint for the tentacles.
  • Use black paint for the eyes on each side of its head, which is where you’ll also draw in two little dots that represent its nostrils.
  • Using red, draw in two small circles to create your jellyfish’s mouth.
  • For spots, use yellow and paint them in various places on your jellyfish’s body (these should cover about half). Paint some seaweed green as well—you can make it as thick or thin as you like!

Watercolor Jellyfish Painting

To make a watercolor jellyfish painting, you’ll need. Watercolor paints. You can find these at your local craft store or online.

A large piece of paper (like construction paper) to outline your jellyfish on in pencil.

Paintbrushes in different sizes and shapes. You’ll need at least two brushes for this project, one for outlining and one for filling in the colors!

To get started, let’s talk about how to make a watercolor jellyfish painting using what we’ve just discussed above:

Start by outlining a jellyfish using your pencil on whichever surface you’d like to paint on (I’m going with paper). It doesn’t matter if it looks messy or perfect because we’re going to cover it up with our paint later anyway!

Balloon jellyfish

Materials

  • balloon
  • tape, glue (optional)

Instructions

Blow up the balloon and tie it off. If you’re going to use glue or tape, now is the time to add it. You may also want to stretch out your balloon so that it has a more jellyfish-like shape than a round one. Make sure all of the air is out before proceeding!

Tape or glue (if you used one) four tall strips of paper together until they are about as wide as your arm span and tall enough for your child’s hand height when standing up straight with arms hanging down at the sides

Construction paper jellyfish

Cut out two small circles of construction paper and glue them together to make a large circle.

Use a hole punch to make the jellyfish’s mouth by punching three holes near the edge of your large circle, then folding in the corners to create an opening for its mouth (like you would fold an envelope). If you don’t have a hole punch, simply use scissors instead!

Do the same thing with another piece of construction paper for its eyes and tentacles by cutting out multiple small circles and gluing them together into larger ones before cutting out even smaller holes for the eyeballs and tentacles respectively.

Glue all three pieces together using a glue stick! Take care not to get any glue on yourself or your clothes—it’s sticky stuff!

Jellyfish with colored pasta

Here’s what you need

Pasta shapes for the body. Choose different shapes, such as stars and triangles. You can use whole or broken pasta pieces for this activity.

Straws for tentacles (buy them at a craft store, or find some that you have lying around).

Fork tines for eyes (you can buy these from a dollar store)

Food coloring in green, black, and yellow (optional)

Toothpick to make mouth and smile on the face of jellyfish body shape

Jello Fish Bowl Craft

This craft is a great way to have some fun making your jello fish bowl while also learning how to make a jellyfish.

Use red and blue food coloring to color two separate jello packs in the colors of your choice – I chose red and blue because they’re my favorite colors, but feel free to use whatever you want!

Pour the two colored jellos into bowls or glasses (make sure there’s enough room for it not to spill over) – depending on how many people are making this craft, you may need more than just one glass/bowl per person if you don’t want fights breaking out over who gets which color Jello first! It’s also best to keep things simple so that everyone can enjoy themselves regardless of age group since toddlers aren’t as used to these types of activities yet as older kids might be so keep that in mind before starting with stuff like this )

Once both cups are filled up with their respective colors (or all four when working with children), use spoons from home or plastic ones from the dollar store instead since metal ones will rust after time spent being exposed directly inside liquid containers like these which would ruin everything else around them too! Kids can help themselves by sticking their fingers into each cup until only about half remains before transferring its contents onto paper plates or even napkins if desired – this way nothing gets wasted!”

Sponge painted jellyfish

Sponge-painted jellyfish. This is a fun project that can be done with children of all ages.

It combines painting, sponge painting, and collage to create a whimsical art piece that also makes a great gift.

  • Materials needed:
  • Sponge
  • Paint (various colors)
  • Brushes (various sizes)
  • Paper or canvas for the body of the jellyfish (can use cut-outs from magazines)

The best part about this craft is that it’s easy to make your patterns! If you need some inspiration, here are some fun ideas:

  • Use different shades of blue for ocean waves on a sandy shoreline
  • Use reds and yellows for fireflies dancing in the night sky
  • Use pinks and purples for flowers blooming under the warm sunshine

Diy Cotton Ball Jellyfish

Materials

  • 2-3 cotton balls (white or off-white)
  • Tape, glue, or sticky tack
  • Paper scissors (if you are a beginner) and/or adult scissors (if you are an adult)

What to do. Gather materials, cut out two or three cotton balls into round shapes (about the size of your palm), and then cut a hole in the top of each one using either your paper scissors or adults.

Take two cotton balls and start taping them together with masking tape until it becomes somewhat resembling an octopus tentacle shape. If you want to make this even more realistic, feel free to cut slits on one side of each cotton ball so that it can be easily wrapped around itself once attached.

(You can also add some glue onto one side before wrapping.) Next, take another tentacle made from two different colored cotton balls but this time wrap around it twice so that they overlap at least 1 inch into itself as shown below!

Toilet Paper Tube Jellyfish Craft

Materials

  • Toilet paper tubes
  • Glue
  • Paint (optional)
  • Poster board (optional)  Scissors Paintbrush  Glitter glue (if you want to use the glittery method) Glue gun
