11 Starfish Craft For Kids
Introduction
11 Starfish Craft For Kids One of the best things about summer is all the time we get to spend with our kids. They can have so much fun learning a new craft and then making something special for themselves or a friend!
These starfish crafts are great for kids of all ages, but they’re especially good if your child has just started learning how to draw and do other arts and crafts projects. This list includes cute paper plate starfish that you can make with just some paint, ribbon,
glue sticks and scissors; salt dough versions made with just two ingredients; DIY glittery ones made from recycled materials; simple handprint & footprint versions that involve tracing outlines onto paper first before cutting them out;
string art designs using colorful yarns instead of thread or ribbons; rough sewn paper plates with buttons glued on instead of thread or glue (this one is easier than it sounds); painted seashells made by pressing shells into paint-filled cups until they look like adorable little sea creatures ready to swim off into the deep blue ocean;
more rough sewn paper plate stars complete with holes where sand could fall through while building a sand castle near their beach house during vacation time in Florida when mommy planned everything perfectly except for forgetting sunscreen was needed so had to scramble around trying not letting her children burn at all cost because if they got sunburned there would be no more fun memories today so gotta run meet them at pool now bye bye!”
Starfish Craft for Kids
Starfish crafts for kids are fun to make, easy to personalize and adaptable for different ages and skill levels.
No matter what you’re looking for in a craft project, you’re sure to find something that fits the bill. If it’s something simple, like making a starfish mobile with paper plates and pipe cleaners, then this is the craft you’re looking for! But if your child is ready for more of a challenge (or if they have more time on their hands),
try making an origami paper starfish. This one takes some patience but it’s worth it when you see how proud your child is when he sees his creation come together at the end of all those folds!
Simple Starfish Craft
- Glue the starfish body together. Try to glue it in the shape of an actual starfish, but don’t worry if your first try isn’t perfect. You’ll have lots of time for practice!
- Decorate your finished starfish with paint or markers.
DIY Glittery Starfish
Here’s a fun craft that you can do with your kids and it will look amazing when they are done. You don’t need to be an artist to make this great starfish craft, just follow the instructions below.

Clay Starfish
Materials:
- Clay of any color(s) you prefer
- Paintbrushes or fingers (if you don’t have brushes, that’s fine too)
- Something to prop your starfish up on while it dries (we used some small blocks and books)
Instructions: 1. Begin by rolling out your clay into a cylinder shape about 2 inches wide, then flatten it out and pinch the edges to form arms for your starfish. 2. Next, take one corner of your starfish body and fold it up toward the top point of where two arms meet (where they touch). Then take another corner and do the same thing,
folding it up toward that same spot so that there are four points sticking up from each side now—two at each end of where two arms meet in the middle. These will become “legs” for our starfish! 3. Take one leg/arm pair and bend them at an angle so they resemble legs/arms more closely; repeat this step with all four pairs until finished shaping all eight legs/arms evenly around
Salt Dough Starfish
>You’ll need:
- Salt dough (recipe below)
- Paint in red, yellow and white (or any colors you’d like)
- Googly eyes
- A star-shaped cookie cutter or the top of a juice can to make your own shape
Handprint & Footprint Starfish
- What you need:
- * 1 craft foam starfish shape (9″ x 12″)
- * 2 sheets of craft foam in different colors and patterns
- * Black paint, paintbrush, and/or black marker (optional)
- How to make this craft:
- Trace your child’s hand on one sheet of the green patterned craft foam. Cut out the handprint shape and set aside. Then trace your child’s foot on another sheet of green patterned craft foam and cut out the footprint shape, if desired. Repeat with a second color or pattern for feet or hands if desired, then set aside all cutouts until ready to assemble starfish body later as directed below. You can also use commercial stickers instead of drawing eyes; just peel them off when they are dry before applying them to starfish body later as directed next step below!
String Art Starfish
- Cut a piece of wood (or PVC pipe) into the dimensions that you want your starfish to be.
- Use a hot glue gun to attach the starfish shapes onto the wooden dowel.
- Use your pencil to mark where you will glue each starfish shape, then use the hot glue gun again to adhere them in place.
Colorful Paper Plate Starfish Craft
- Use a paper plate.
- Paint the starfish.
- Add buttons and sequins to make it sparkle!
- Glue on pom poms for eyes, or use pipe cleaners to create arms and legs.
Rough Sewn Paper Plates Starfish Craft
Materials:
- Paper plates of varying sizes (the number of plates you use will determine how big your starfish is)
- Sticky tape or glue (sticky tape is faster, but glue will create a stronger bond)
Instructions:
- Place the largest paper plate on your work surface and cover it with sticky tape or glue. Make sure to cover one side completely and leave no gaps. Repeat this step until all five large tabs are covered in sticky material. You should have five large tabs by the end of this step! If you want to make smaller stars later on, simply use smaller plates!
- Take two small tabs and stick them together with either tape or glue so that they form one long tab that goes across the center of the largest tab from Step 1. Repeat this process until all four small tabs from Step 1 are connected in some way on top of each other at their centers; these become the “legs” for our starfish!
- Now take two large tabs from Step 1 (they should be next to each other) and stick them together using either tape or glue such that they form one longer tab across both sides; these will become our starfish’s arms!
Spaghetti and Glue Startsfish Craft
Spaghetti and glue startfish craft
- Cut a piece of spaghetti to 4 inches long.
- Add glue on the tip of your starfish’s arms, then stick the spaghetti on it to make a seahorse!
Painted Seashells Starfish Craft
- Paint the seashell with acrylic paint. If it is a plastic shell, paint both sides.
- Let your child choose a starfish shape from our starfish template, then cut out the shape. You can use scissors or an X-Acto knife to make clean cuts; if you’re using an adult-sized paper plate as your canvas, be sure to cut out 4 pieces of cardboard and set them underneath your paper plate before cutting the starfish shapes out so that you don’t end up with jagged edges on your finished craft!
- Glue the starfish onto one side of each painted seashell. We used regular old Elmer’s glue stick for this step but if you have some more advanced glues lying around like Mod Podge or fabric glue that might work better for this project since they’re thicker than regular school glue–just make sure whatever kind you choose isn’t washable since we’ll be painting over these later!
Easy Ribbon Starfishes for Kids to Make
Materials:
- Ribbon
- Glue
- Scissors
- Paint (in your child’s favorite colors)
You’ll also need:
- A starfish template, which you can download here. This will be used to draw the shape of each starfish on the paper. You can cut out several different types of starfish and use them as templates for other projects, too!
- Clothespins or paper clips to hold down the edge of paper while drawing with markers

Even the youngest children can make these starfish crafts.
The starfish crafts in this post are all simple, but they definitely don’t look it. This is because they’re made with the help of recycled materials that are easy to find around the house—you’ll probably even have everything you need right now!
- Recycle plastic lids: To make these starfish crafts, you’ll need some empty plastic lids. The size of these lids will determine how big your finished starfish will be and how much detail you can add to it. You can use any kind of lid — from soup cans to chip packets — so long as there are no logos or writing on them (because kids will start adding details).
- Glue sticks: You’ll also need a glue stick for each craft in this post; otherwise, the paper won’t stay attached very well during coloring. If you don’t have any glue sticks at home yet, then buy some when picking up your plastic lids at the store later today! If there aren’t any available nearby though (and let’s be honest here: there probably won’t be), then just wait until another day when they might be available again nearby….
starfish kids craft, activity
Creating a starfish craft is a fun and engaging activity for kids. Here’s a simple starfish craft idea that you can try:
Materials you will need:
- Cardstock or construction paper (in various colors)
- Scissors
- Glue or glue stick
- Markers or crayons
- Googly eyes (optional)
- Decorative materials like sequins, glitter, or stickers (optional)
Instructions:
- Cut out a starfish shape: Start by cutting out a starfish shape from the cardstock or construction paper. You can either draw and cut it freehand or find a starfish template online to trace and cut out.
- Decorate the starfish: Use markers or crayons to color the starfish. You can choose any colors you like or make it resemble a real starfish. Let your creativity shine!
- Add details: Draw patterns or designs on the starfish to make it more interesting. You can add lines, dots, or any other details you’d like.
- Glue on googly eyes (optional): If you have googly eyes, you can glue them onto the starfish to give it a fun and lively look. Alternatively, you can draw eyes directly onto the starfish using markers or crayons.
- Decorate further (optional): If desired, you can enhance your starfish by adding additional decorative elements. Use glue or glue stick to attach sequins, glitter, or stickers to the starfish. Let your imagination guide you!
- Let it dry: Allow the glue to dry completely before moving or displaying your starfish craft.
Variations and Extensions:
- Sensory Starfish: Use textured materials like tissue paper or craft foam to add a tactile element to the starfish. Cut small squares or shapes from different textured materials and glue them onto the starfish to create a sensory experience.
- Storytelling: Encourage kids to create a story or character around their starfish craft. They can come up with a name for their starfish and imagine its adventures in the ocean.
- Mobile or Garland: Create multiple starfish crafts and string them together to make a mobile or garland. Hang them from a stick, dowel, or string to create a decorative display.
This starfish craft allows kids to express their creativity and explore different materials while learning about marine life. It’s a wonderful activity that combines art and imagination.
