13 St Patricks Day Craft For Kids

13 St Patricks Day Craft For Kids

St Patrick’s Day is one of my favorite holidays to celebrate with kids. It has so many fun activities and crafts.

The rainbow, too, is a great way to teach kids about primary and secondary colors.

Here is some fun St Patricks Day craft for kids that use all the traditional St Paddy’s colors from green to orange!

Leprechaun Hat Craft For Kids

To make the leprechaun hat, you’ll need

  • A gold plastic cup or bowl that is about 4 inches in diameter (the diameter should be about 2 inches smaller than your head size)
  • Duct tape or construction paper
  • Red paper straws (if you don’t have red ones, cut red construction paper into strips)
  • Optional: green pipe cleaners or ribbon for beard

Paper Shamrock Garland

To make a paper shamrock garland, you will need.

  • Green paper (a piece of construction paper or poster board)
  • A hole punch
  • Ribbon to tie the shamrocks together (you can also use string, yarn, or tape)
  • A glue gun

Clover Plants With Clothespins

To make the clover plants, you will need to cut out four-leaf shapes from green construction paper.

The next step is for the kids to decorate their leaves with googly eyes, and then draw on a mouth with a marker.

Next up, you will need to attach clothespins to each leaf using tape or glue (we used tape). You can also glue pom poms onto the ends of your clothespins as well!

Cut straws in half and place one inside each plant pot so they look like stems!

Leprechaun Trap Made From A Box

Leprechaun Trap. This craft is very simple and can be done on any box. You will need

  • A box with a lid (shoe box size)
  • A small paper bag (for the leprechaun’s treasure)
  • Elmer’s glue or hot glue gun (to attach the trap together)

Once you have gathered your supplies, follow these steps,

Cut out a door on one side of your box making sure it does not go all the way to the bottom so that when you open it, it will close back again. You can also cut a window in this same location so that you can see inside of it!

If you want to make an opening for your trap door/window as well, then just leave some extra space when cutting around it so that you can fold over those edges later on down below where they are visible – like shown here:

Handprint Shamrock Craft

If you’re looking for a simple craft that can be done at any age, this is the one! It’s a great way to include kids in the fun.

You’ll need

  • Paint (green)
  • Glitter (optional)
  • Markers or pens (white and black)

St Patrick’s Day Crown With Ribbon And Chain Links

The first thing you will need is a piece of cardboard. I used a cereal box for this craft, but any thick paper or cardboard will work!

You’ll also need some glue, scissors, and ribbon or chain links.

Cut the paper to fit your child’s head (or adult’s) and then cut a hole at the top for their head. Cut out 3 smaller circles along one edge of the larger circle – these will be your shamrocks! Now it’s time to decorate your crown!

Use markers or stickers to draw on a shamrock in each corner of the cardboard crown. Try making different shapes – there are many ways to decorate them! You could even use glitter glue if you like sparkly things) Finally, wrap some ribbon around each corner of your crown so that it looks pretty when worn by someone who likes dressing up in costumes )

Rainbow Headband Craft

Materials

  • Paper (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple)
  • Scissors
  • Glue Stick

Instructions

Cut out 6 strips of paper each 2 inches wide and 2 feet long in the order of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. You should have 7 pieces in total.

Fold the red strip into a triangle shape and secure it with glue or tape on top of a piece of cardboard to make it stiffer if needed.

Repeat this step for all 7 sheets so that you have 7 triangles arranged in a circle shape with their base touching each other as shown below:

Pot Of Gold Craft Made From Tin Foil

The pot of gold is an object that appears in many legends, but it’s most commonly associated with the Irish legend of Saint Patrick.

It’s said that he drove all the snakes out of Ireland and then made a wish that they would return to Ireland on March 17th every year. And so it came to pass that on this day when the sun shines through a hole in the clouds, there are loads of little pieces of tin foil reflecting light around your home!

If you’re looking for something quick and easy to do with your kids this St Patricks Day (or any other time), then try making this super-simple craft from some empty toilet rolls and some tin foil:

What You Will Need: Materials: 2 empty toilet rolls A sheet of colored card tissue paper A roll of white tape Scissors Glue stick Tin foil Instructions: Cut two long strips from your roll and wrap around each end.

Fold over one end so you have a triangle shape at each end – leave room at one end for taping down later Cut out three leaf shapes from your tissue paper (two large ones will form the leaves on top and one medium-sized one will be used as decoration)

Tie together using another strip cut from your roll Wrap around until you have covered most parts exposed by previous steps Wrapping should overlap slightly at each point where leaves meet Cover exposed areas completely by wrapping more layers Do not use glue yet!

Rainbow Suncatcher Craft For Kids

Materials

  • Paper towel or tissue paper
  • Glue (for kids older than 3)

Step 1.

Cut the tissue paper into squares, rectangles, or triangles. The size of your pieces depends on how big you want them to be when they are finished.

Step 2.

Lay out the pieces with a piece of stiff cardboard or plastic under them as you work so that they will not stick together when working with multiple colors of glue later on.

Step 3.

When you have finished cutting out all of your shapes, take a small amount of glue and spread it over one side of each shape with the tip of a paintbrush or craft stick (you may prefer using paintbrushes for younger children). You can add more glue if needed but try not to use too much because then it will be hard for your child to peel their rainbow away from the glass once dry!

Rainbow Window Clings

Use window clings to make a rainbow on the window.

Cut out different colors of shapes from construction paper, and let your child stick them onto the window clings.

Use a rainbow pattern on the window. (Note: If you have older kids, they can use paint and let it drip down in certain spots.)

Try using different colors of construction paper with gold paper accents to create a fun rainbow design!

  • 2. Cut out your shamrocks

  • 4. Let cool 5. Serve!

Craft With Pom Poms And Ribbon Lacing Activity

This Toddler St Patricks Day Craft With Pom Poms And Ribbon Lacing Activity is a fun way to teach toddlers how to tie their shoelaces.

It’s also a fun craft for them to decorate their own shoe box with pom-poms and ribbon.

You will need

  • Shoe box or cardboard box
  • Green tissue paper or green cardstock paper (one sheet of each)
  • Brown construction paper (two sheets)
  • Yellow felt, 1/2″ thick (#1071) – 2 sheets, cut into 4-inch squares
  • Red felt, 1/4″-1/2″ thick (#1072) – 2 sheets, cut into 4-inch squares

St Patricks Day Word Cards For Early Reading Practice

These word cards are a fun way to practice reading and writing.

All you need is a set of St Patricks Day Word Cards, some crayons or colored pencils, and a piece of paper.

  • Look at the word on the front of each card.
  • Make up a sentence using that word as well as any other words in the set (e.g., We made some green shapes on St Patricks Day).
  • Write down your sentence in one line on your paper, then illustrate it if you like!

Rainbow craft

St Patrick’s Day is all about rainbows and pots of gold, so include in your craft for kids.

  • Rainbow craft for kids
  • Pot of gold craft, made from tin foil
  • Rainbow word cards for early reading practice
  • Rainbow munch snack for kids to eat while they work on their crafts
  • Rainbow window clings that will last all year long (or at least until the next St Patrick’s Day)

Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed these St Patricks Day crafts for kids. I know my daughter and I had a blast making them. What’s great about incorporating the holiday into crafts is that they can be easy, and fun and help the kids learn while they are at it.
