11 Best Dinosaur Art Project Ideas

11 Best Dinosaur Art Project Ideas

As a kid, I loved dinosaurs—I mean, who didn’t? They’re loud and ferocious, but they’ve been extinct for millennia.

It’s the perfect blend of danger and safety! Actually, now that I think about it, dinosaurs are pretty much just dragons that live on land instead of in the air or in lakes.

So yes, all kids love dinosaurs because all kids love dragons, which is why we created this list of 11 dinosaur-themed arts and crafts with your little adventurer in mind. Even if you’re not a child yourself (though let’s be honest—there’s a child inside us all!), you’ll find these projects easy to do and fun to complete.

DIY Dinosaur Paper Plate Mask

This is a great project for younger children who are learning to use scissors.

You will need, paper plates, paint in any color, paintbrushes, and any other materials that might inspire you (feathers? ribbons?)

  • Cut out the center of your plate (use a core-removing tool if necessary)
  • Paint your plate with one color of paint. Let it dry completely before applying another coat or two if you want more color intensity.
  • Cut out some large shapes from construction paper or cardstock, then cut small slits along the edges. Glue these onto the back side of your mask so they can be seen through its eyes and mouth holes when wearing it!

3D Dinosaur Crafts for Kids {3 Ways}

Dinosaur Fossil Excavation Kit If your kids are into dinosaurs then they will love this craft. You need to build the fossilized bones of a dinosaur by following the instructions and collecting all the pieces.

This is a great project for kids who love puzzles, as it involves piecing together different parts carefully. Once completed you can play with your new dinosaur skeleton diorama and makeup stories about it!

Kid’s Easter Basket Idea – Dino Dig Kit! These baskets are perfect for any kid who loves digging, hunting, and exploring prehistoric creatures from around 100 million years ago! The kid digs through dirt to find fossils which then have to be cleaned off before being put back into place in the plaster cast of an ancient riverbed (or the sandbox). You can also make up games such as “I spy” using clues on how many bones are hidden under each layer of mud or sand (or just look at them yourself!).

Easy Dinosaur Craft with Paper Plates

  • Cut out a paper plate in the shape of a dinosaur.
  • Apply glue to the back of two plates, then stack them on top of one another.
  • Add eyes, horns, and claws using markers or paint.
  • Poke holes in the back so you can hang it up with string or ribbon!

Salt Dough Handprint Keepsake & Craft for Kids

  • What you need to make salt dough
  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons oil (optional)

Dinosaurs Stomping Feet & Roaring Arts and Crafts for Preschoolers

  • You’ll need
  • brown construction paper
  • blue construction paper
  • To do Fold the brown and blue papers in half, then fold each piece again so that you have four sections. Draw the two largest sections at the top and bottom of each piece of folded paper to create dinosaur feet.

Cut out these shapes and punch holes where indicated in the pictures above. The next steps are easiest with an adult’s help!

Then, use a hole punch (or something similar) to make a hole in each corner of every page except for one (for example, if there are six pages total), then thread yarn through these holes to create handles that will allow your child to hold onto them while he or she walks around stomping like a dinosaur! Finally,

have your child draw some roaring roars on one side of each page—and voilà! You’ve created some fun arts and crafts for preschoolers who love dinosaurs!

How to Make a Paper Bag Dino Puppet

Paper Bag Dino Puppet. Materials paper bag, marker, scissors, and tape.

  • Cut off the bottom of a paper bag so it becomes half-circle-shaped. This will become your dinosaur puppet’s head.
  • Draw some features on the front of your dinosaur puppet’s face (eyes, nose, and mouth). You can use whatever you like for these features and make them as crazy or simple as you want!
  • Tape one end of a shoelace to each side of your puppet head cutout—this will be used to secure the head onto your hand while you wear it like a glove!

Simple Triceratops Dinosaur Handprint Art For Kids

Grab a brown paper bag and trace the shape of a Triceratops onto it with a marker. Have your little artist create some dinosaur footprints with their hands, feet, or whatever they want to use (you can use clay or paint).

Take another brown paper bag and draw the outline of a Triceratops’ head on it using a Sharpie pen (you can also use crayons). You can also color in the eyes, horns, and mouth with markers if you’d like them to be colored in instead of black lines.

Use green paint for grass around the bottom part of your green-colored dinosaur handprint art creation – make sure that you don’t fill up too much space though so that there will still be enough room for more steps later on! This will give your children an idea about what colors go together well together when creating something visually appealing such as this one here 🙂

Now add some red stripes over the top of those green spots where you’ve painted dirt earlier – this should make things look less boring because now there seems like more depth than just one flat color would give us! For example: imagine yourself standing close enough to see someone’s face clearly but far enough away so that they’re not able to see yours clearly either way; now imagine doing something similar

Kid’s Easter Basket Idea – Dino Dig Kit!

Materials.

  • One or more small paper bags (for digging)
  • Dinosaur bones (purchase at the craft store)
  • Paint, paint brushes, and other decorations (optional)
  • Cut the top off the bag about halfway down. Place the dinosaur bone in the bottom of the bag, so that it is not visible from above but can be seen through holes in your paper bag. If you have a child who isn’t ready for this project, simply cut out circles from different colors of construction paper and glue them over the top of their plastic dinosaur bone so they can still see what they’re digging for! You could also use ribbons instead of construction paper if you want to get really fancy!
  • Add some sand or small rocks around your dino bones so that kids won’t accidentally push them out while playing with their new kit!
  • Have fun!

Dinosaur Fossil Excavation Kit

This is a very simple project that even younger children can do. All you need to do is make a baking soda and water mixture, which will create the fossils.
