11 Bus Craft For Kids

I’m always looking for fun ways to keep my preschoolers engaged during the summer months, and this school bus craft is a great idea. 

I’ve got a few more ideas in my back pocket that are perfect for a cool-off day or rainy day activity!

There are many bus craft activities that kids can do. One is to make a bus out of cardboard boxes. This can be done by painting the boxes to look like a bus and then adding some details such as windows, wheels, and a door. 

Another bus craft is to make a bus out of paper plates. This can be done by painting the plates to look like a bus and then adding some details such as windows, wheels, and a door.

Shape Bus

To make a bus craft, you’ll need to purchase a small bus shape from a craft store. If you don’t want to buy the whole thing, ask them if they have any leftover pieces that they might sell you. 

You could also look around your neighborhood for an old school bus that is no longer in use.

Once you have purchased or found your desired piece of felt or fabric, cut it into four equal parts by folding it over and measuring along both sides of the fold with rulers or measuring tape. Then cut through all four layers at once using sharp scissors so that each segment has two long edges and two short edges.

Now take the longest edge and fold it inward along its length (using one hand on each side). Repeat with all three other segments until each of them has been folded in half twice (once along their length) and then again at right angles (so they resemble triangles).

Cardboard Tube Bus

A cardboard tube from a paper towel roll, toilet paper rolls, and some paint is all you need for this bus craft for kids. 

Cut the cardboard tubes into equal lengths and punch holes through them to create windows. Paint the outside of each tube with colored paint to match your theme then let it dry completely before adding details like wheels and headlights. 

If you’d like more windows on the side of your bus, cut squares out of white construction paper to fit inside each window opening before gluing them in place with a glue stick or regular white glue (don’t use hot glue). For added fun, add passengers inside by drawing faces on strips of black construction paper or cotton balls wrapped in black yarn!

Toilet Paper Tube School Bus Craft

You will need.

• Toilet paper tubes (one for each child)
• Paint
• Paint brushes and paint tray or plate that can be used in the tub.
• Small balls of cotton wool (optional) – can be purchased from the chemist.

First, we painted our toilet roll tubes and let them dry overnight so they were ready to go when we came back the next day. You could also use a base coat of glue to stick on your decorations, first of all, then add some color on top of this – a great idea if you want to make sure they stay put!

School Bus Footprint Art

Materials needed.

• A piece of white paper to use as a background. You can also use brown paper, but it’s not as colorful.
• Construction paper in red, yellow, and blue—or whatever colors you want to use!

Directions.

Fold the construction paper into fourths and cut out two rectangles from each color (12 total).

Take one rectangle from each color and fold it in half so that the top edges are touching and then unfold it again.

Fold down one corner so that there is an inch or so between the bottom edge of your first fold with where you made your second fold. Repeat this step for all four corners until you have a square shape with four triangular flaps sticking up at 90-degree angles from each side (like an envelope). 

Then unfold these triangles back up again so they look like six little triangles sticking out from underneath when you flip over your square piece of folded-up paper toward yourself on top of your flat surface — just like how a regular envelope looks when opened up flat after being sealed shut by licking an adhesive strip on its flap!

DIY Scratch Art School Bus Craft for Kids

DIY School Bus Magnet Craft for Kids

Materials.

• Brown, black and yellow construction paper in different sizes (for paint)
• Scissors or a craft knife (for cutting)
• Paintbrush or sponge brush (for applying paint)
• A magnet (to make the bus stick to the refrigerator)

Directions. To make your DIY school bus magnet craft for kids, follow these steps:

Cut out 3 large rectangles from brown construction paper using a craft knife or scissors. These will be used for painting later so you don’t have to worry about keeping them perfect!

Using a sponge brush, apply yellow paint over all three of your rectangles until they are completely covered by the paint. This is your school bus’ exterior color scheme! Set aside until dry before moving on to step 3!

Recycled CD School Bus craft for kids

This is a great project to do with kids. It’s simple and easy to make, but also looks great when finished. 

The best part about this craft is that you can use recycled materials that you may already have around the house (like old CDs) so there is no need for additional purchases.

Materials needed.

Recycled CDs or DVDs (one per child)

• Pencils (one per child)

How to make it

Draw eyes, nose, mouth, and ears on each side of your CD using a pencil sharpened into a point like an icing tip on a pastry bag would. If you don’t want your buses looking exactly like ours then draw whatever designs you want onto yours instead! 

Glue 2 pencils into place at the front of your bus as if they were its headlights; these will represent its “eyes”. 

Cut off any excess card stock with scissors and glue it onto the back of the CD or DVD as shown above

Use construction paper to make a bus. You’ll need at least two colors of construction paper to make your bus. If you have more than one child, use different colors for each child’s bus so that they can tell their buses apart. 

Color the entire piece of white paper or cardstock first and then draw on the many windows with crayons or markers as needed. Add details as desired (e.g., wheels, doors) with more crayons/markers or other craft supplies such as beads or glitter glue (optional). 

When finished decorating, fold along lines 1–3 on the diagram.

finally cut out each square shape shown in diagram 6 (you will end up with 8 squares total). Then fold down flap 7 from each square separately so that it sticks out from underneath flap 2 indicated by arrows A – D on diagrams 5 & 6 respectively which will give you a 3D-looking bus body! 

Repeat steps 9 through 11 until all eight pieces have been folded down into place! Your child should now be able to add passengers inside their miniature school bus using cutout shapes B8a-c shown in diagrams 7 & 8 respectively before adding #10 below for final touches like wheels etcetera if needed!”

This is a great activity to do with your kids, especially if they’re learning the alphabet.
