11 Collage Craft For Kids

I’ve been a crafty person for as long as I can remember, but it wasn’t until my daughter was born that I discovered how much fun it is to make projects with her.

She’s six now, and she loves to get out the glue sticks and crayons and cut up magazines with me (and sometimes we just let her do it on her own). But she also loves getting creative with new materials.

leaves, paper plates, Styrofoam cups—you name it! I’ve rounded up 11 of our favorite collage projects that use easy-to-find supplies or things you already have around the house. These ideas will inspire your kids’ creativity while keeping them busy through all four seasons of the year!

1. Poster and Paper Collage

Choose a poster or piece of paper and glue it to the wall.

Use different papers in different colors, textures, and shapes to make a collage on the poster.

You could also write words or draw pictures on some of your pieces if you want to tell a story!

2. Stamping Collage

This is a very easy way to make a collage, and it can be done with almost any type of stamp.

The stamps can create the background for your collage, or you can use them as borders around the edges. They are also a great way to add texture and color to the page.

Simply put some glue (or even better, Mod Podge!) on the back of your stamps, then press them firmly onto your paper or canvas until they dry. If you’re looking for ideas for stamps to use in this craft, try taking an old dictionary apart and selecting some interesting words from there!

3. Glue Stick Drip Collage

What you’ll need.

A few old magazines or newspapers (you can cut out pictures from the newspaper, but it will be easier to read if you use something that isn’t folded)

A few glue sticks (the bigger the better–they’ll be easier to hold)

A piece of poster board or cardboard for your base, any size will do. You’ll want this larger than your pictures, so it doesn’t show through. If you’re using a lot of small pieces and don’t have enough space on your base, consider making multiple collages instead of one big one!

4. Styrofoam Cup Collage

This is a fun way to make collages that are simple and colorful.

You can use a variety of materials, including glue, paint, crayons, markers, stickers, and paper. Try using yarn or fabric as well!

Feathers and buttons are also fun additions to your cup collages. As for beads and sequins? Stick them anywhere you want!

5. Watercolor Resist Collage

  • Use a sponge to apply watercolor.
  • Protect the surface with a piece of paper.
  • Create a pattern using stencils, brushes, cotton swabs or toothpicks.

6. Scratch Art Collage

Scratch art is a fun collage activity that will get your kids’ imaginations flowing.

With this project, you can use a variety of materials such as paper, cardboard, and foam sheets to create a work of art.

Your child will be able to explore their creativity as they choose which materials they want to use and how they want to combine them together.

7. Heart-Shaped Paper Mosaic Collage

  • Use a variety of different papers.
  • Use a variety of different colors.
  • Mix and match shapes and sizes.
  • Use different shapes of paper to create a collage.

Use a variety of different glues. If you use too much glue, it will be hard for your child to get the mosaic off once it’s stuck down! You want to go for just enough!

You can also use other materials instead of glue like wheat paste or clear silicone sealant.

8. Marble Paint and Paper Plate Collage

  • Use a paper plate as your base
  • Use marbles to create a design
  • Add paintbrush lines or roller lines to make it look more like marble.

9. Pressed Flowers And Leaves Collage

  • Materials.
  • A plastic container (large enough to hold your flowers and leaves)
  • Pressed flowers and leaves of various shapes and sizes
  • How to arrange the flowers and leaves:

Select a few different types of pressed flowers, including some large ones like roses, dahlias, sunflowers, and ferns. You can also include some leaves in your composition.

If you have a lot of smaller blooms but only one larger bloom that fits well in the center of your collage board (like a dahlia or rose), make sure its place is centered on the board’s horizontal axis so it doesn’t look crooked!

Place these larger blooms around an even number of smaller ones; you’ll want at least four or five small pieces for every big piece so that there’s still plenty of contrast between them when everything is pressed flat together into one piece.

If there aren’t many small pieces available, focus on filling up as much space as possible with those instead!

10. Leaf Skeleton Prints Collage

Materials

  • Leaves of your choosing (one for each print)
  • White paper or cardstock, about 8.5 x 11 inches
  • Green marker or crayon

11. Foil Prints With Recycled Foil Paper Plate Collages

Foil plates are great for printing, cutting, and collaging.

Foil plates are easy to cut out using scissors or a craft knife. They can be used to create a collage or 3D object by gluing or taping them together, then painting over the top with acrylic paint. (This is similar to how you would use construction paper.)

After you’ve made your foil plate art, you can print onto it using an inkjet printer and specially designed foil transfer paper that has been treated so that it will stick to the foil surface without causing any damage!

You Can Make Amazing Collages With These Projects!

You can use old magazines and newspapers,

Or even fabric scraps to create a beautiful and unique piece that will look great on your wall.

Collage is an easy way to express yourself and tell a story, so get creative and see what you can come up with!
