Summer is the perfect time to craft with kids at home. It’s hot and there’s nothing like a room full of paper, scissors, glue sticks, paint, and other fun things you can do with your kids. Below are some of my favorite crafts for kids at home that are easy to make and inexpensive too!

As well as this, art and craft activities are also great for developing children’s fine motor skills, creativity, problem-solving abilities, and much more!15 Easy Art And Crafts For Kids At Home

Mason Jar Lamps

Mason jars are a great way to reuse glass jars. They can be decorated with paint, glitter, or other materials to create unique designs.

You can also add a lamp kit and make a lamp out of a mason jar.

  • Decorate the outside of the jar by painting or adding some craft supplies like stickers, glitter, and more!
  • Add an LED light kit so that it lights up when you turn it on (you will have to order this separately).

Egg Carton Flowers

What you need

  • An egg carton
  • Wax paper
  • Scissors
  • Craft glue (you can also use white school glue)

Paint in various colors, such as yellow, red, blue, and green. You may prefer to use paint markers instead of regular paint if your child is young or has a tendency to put things in their mouth. They also make glitter paints for more fun!

Paper Bag Puppets

Paper Bag Puppets are a great way to encourage your kids to be creative and use their imagination.

You can make them out of any kind of paper bag, but grocery bags work especially well because they’re sturdy and easy to cut open.

Decorate the bags with markers, crayons, stickers or paint so that you have fun characters for your kids’ puppet shows. If you don’t have time for that, just use pre-cut puppets like mini people or animals instead!

Once you’ve got your puppets ready to go, let the kids get creative! They can act out stories they’ve read together (or their own stories), or even invent their own games using their Paper Bag Puppets as characters in an imaginary world!

Bottle Cap Magnets

Bottle cap magnets are a fun and easy craft for kids. Kids will have fun making their own bottle cap magnets to use as fridge art, or as gifts for friends.

You will need.

  • Bottle caps
  • Magnet board (or any magnet)
  • Craft paints (optional)

Paint Swatch Art

Paint swatch art is a craft that allows you to express your creativity and use colors in a unique way.

It’s also a great project for kids who are learning how to draw because it encourages them to think outside of the box while they practice their fine motor skills. This tutorial will show you how easy it is to create paint swatch art at home!

Materials needed:

  • Paint swatches, cut into strips (or other shapes)
  • Paper or cardboard (depending on what kind of frame you want to make)
  • Sharpie markers in different colors

Popsicle Stick Frames

Materials

  • popsicle sticks
  • glue or tape
  • string, ribbon, or yarn for hanging (optional)

Instructions

Cut the popsicle sticks in half, and then use a glue gun to attach them together end-to-end so that you have one long piece of wood.

Make sure that there are only two rows of popsicle sticks touching each other when installing them; this will allow for more space between each frame when hanging them on the wall. If you want to use tape instead of glue, just make sure it can hold up some weight!

Adorn with paint or markers (optional). The finished product should look something like this!

Clothespin Butterflies

This is a fun craft for kids to make, and it’s also a great way to recycle old clothespins.

You can use them as part of your Mother’s Day decorations or set up a clothespin butterfly station at your child’s next birthday party.

For summer camp activities, you could even make a whole group of these butterflies and string them up outside!

Button Art

To get started, you’ll need some buttons. You can use buttons of any size or shape and color, but the best ones are round and colorful.

Now that you’ve got your materials ready, let’s get to work! First, cut out a piece of cardboard to use as the back of your button art piece. For this project, we used an old cereal box but you could also use poster board or construction paper if it is available in your home. Next up cut out several circles from different colors of construction paper and set them aside for later on in this step-by-step craft for kids at home tutorial.

Next up is putting together all your pieces: Take one circle at a time and glue it onto the cardboard backing board (this is where most adults come in handy). You’ll want to start with smaller circles first before layering them on top of each other until they reach around 1″ tall – this will give plenty of room for all those buttons!

World Map

Materials needed

A map of the world – we used this one from Amazon.

envelope paper (we used brown kraft) – available at any craft store.

scissors and ruler or another cutting tool to cut envelope paper along the lines of your map.

Washi Tape Wall Art

What you need

  • Washi tape
  • Piece of paper
  • Scissors (if your washi tape is on a roll)
  • Pen or pencil
  • Tape (optional)

regular and clear, if you want to make it look fancy! * A hanging hook (if you want to hang it up)

Paper Flower Craft

The first step is to cut out the flower shape.

The easiest way to do this is by using a punch or a craft knife, but you could also use scissors if you don’t have either of these tools on hand.

Then, fold each petal down like an accordion and glue them together until you have a flower shape. You can also paint your paper flowers with acrylic paint and add glitter for extra sparkle!

Accordion Folded Flowers

Cut a piece of paper into a square.Cut the square in half vertically and horizontally.

Fold the resulting four squares in half to create eight smaller squares.

Open each of the folded squares and then push them back into their original shapes with your fingers, creating “petals” that are identical on both sides.

The petals will then be glued together to form an accordion flower shape! Simply paint and decorate this unique flower as desired before attaching it to your favorite piece of fabric or clothing!

  • Glue
  • Googly eyes

Cut 2 circles from brown pipe cleaners; glue these to the sides of the fish for fins. Glue googly eyes onto fish bodies and pom poms onto heads for noses (or use craft foam).

Color pencils can be used to add detail to your fish faces if you wish.Make sure all pieces are secure before moving on to the next step!

Handprint Octopus

With the paper plates, paint the outside black and let them dry for a few hours or overnight.

Cut out eight to ten circles from the colored construction paper to use as stencils for your octopus’ eyes and tentacles (you can also just freehand this step).

Glue each circle onto a plate in an arrangement that looks like an octopus’ body parts when you’re done! If you want to make it more complicated, add more tentacles by making more circles of smaller sizes or gluing them on top of one another!

Draw on some details with markers and glitter if desired (see photos above).

Handprint Jellyfish

What you’ll need

  • Craft paint (can be found at any craft store)
  • Paper plate
  • Paint brushes and glue to put the flower together.

Instructions: Place your child’s hand on the paper plate and let them press down while you paint it with craft paint. Once dry, cut out 2 circles from tissue paper and glue them onto the jellyfish as shown in the picture above using a hot glue gun or any other type of glue that you have available.

Cut out a flower shape from craft foam in your desired color and place it on top of your jellyfish by gluing it in place with white glue or any other type of adhesive that works best for you. As an optional step, add some artificial flowers around the edges of your project to make it more colorful!

Footprint Crab Craft For Kids To Make This Summer!

Materials

  • A piece of paper for each child.
  • Some paintbrushes, pencils, and markers if you’d like to decorate the paper before you start.

How To Make

Ask your child to stand on a piece of paper and then trace their foot with a pencil or pen as they step off it again while you hold it in place against the floor/table etc.

so that there is now an outline of their footprint left behind on the paper below them! If they’re not so keen on standing still while you do this, ask them to stand with one foot in front of another and then lift up one foot at a time while keeping them together until both feet have been outlined on the sheet below.

just make sure that when you’re looking back down again after doing each foot individually (and having pressed hard enough), that what’s left from each step isn’t too big as we don’t really want any blobs here! You might want some way at hand though just in case because sometimes these things happen anyway no matter how careful we are.”

A rock painting is a fun activity for kids and adults alike. You can paint rocks with your kids, or you can do it by yourself as a way to bring some added inspiration and joy to your home decor.

Rock painting is a great activity for kids because it allows them to express themselves freely while also helping them develop their fine motor skills and creativity. For adults, rock painting may seem like an easy thing to do but don’t be fooled—it actually requires a lot of concentration!

When choosing what type of paint to use on your rocks, there are quite a few options available. acrylic paints are one of the most versatile kinds out there (they’re water-resistant too) but if you want something that will last longer than normal then oil-based paints might be better suited for this purpose (these tend not only to last longer but also give off an interesting smell). Whatever kind you choose though, just make sure that whatever surface area is being painted has been cleaned beforehand so as not

This simple guide will help you teach your child how to make art in an easy way that he or she can follow along with without getting frustrated or overwhelmed. The steps are simple enough that both shy children and outgoing ones will be able to follow along easily, regardless of age grouping!
