13 Easy Birdhouse Craft For Kids

We love bird crafts for kids but also for adults, and we love DIY birdhouse ideas as well.

Whether you want to make a birdhouse from scratch or an upcycled milk jug turned into a bird house (actually one of our favorite.

DIY projects ever are making milk jug projects), there’s something here for everyone. Let’s dive in and start crafting!

Birdhouse with a popsicle stick

Materials

  • popsicle sticks (you’ll need 30-40)
  • scraps of twine or yarn (I used about a yard total)
  • markers in various colors, preferably washable markers
  • scissors or an x-acto knife, if you’re using wood blocks instead of popsicle sticks

Recycled Milk Jugs Birdhouse

Using recycled milk jugs is an easy and inexpensive way to craft your own birdhouse.

Find a milk jug that you can use for the base of your birdhouse. This will be the structure of your house, so make sure it’s in good shape and free from holes or cracks before you begin.

Cut off both ends of the milk jug using scissors or a utility knife (be careful!). Keep in mind how much space you’ll need for decorating and filling with birdseed later on!

Paint one side of the cut-off top half blue, red, green or whatever color you like best; leave the other side white for now—you’ll paint it on after covering any imperfections with duct tape before adding decorations like streamers or feathers!

You could also spray paint both pieces if that suits what project you have planned better than painting each piece separately would

Winter Wreath Birdhouses (A Great Diy Christmas Project)

To make this birdhouse wreath, you will need. A foam wreath form (this can be purchased from a craft store or made from an existing wreath)

  • Styrofoam balls in various sizes (these are also available at your local craft store)
  • Decorative moss (again, you can purchase this or make your own*)
  • Once you have gathered all the materials together, it’s time to start decorating! Here’s what to do:
  • Take a styrofoam ball and hot glue it onto the foam wreath form; repeat with more styrofoam balls until you have covered the entire thing in them. Leave space around each one so they don’t touch each other when they’re done drying/setting up their shape; otherwise, they may get stuck together and become difficult to remove later on down the line if something were to happen during storage/usage!

Nested Birdhouses

• Nested birdhouses

• Birdhouse for a paper towel tube

• Birdhouse for a toilet paper roll

Painted Birdhouses Made With Wood Blocks

Use a variety of paints and brushes to create your birdhouse. Your child can use paintbrushes from the dollar store, or you can buy him/her a new set if he/she wants to get fancy.

You’ll also want to stock up on different colors of acrylics (paint markers work well too).

Don’t forget to have some paper towels handy! It’s always a good idea to have plenty of rags or towels available when working with kids’ crafts projects because they’re bound to get messy at some point during the process.

When it comes time for painting, set up an area where your child has plenty of room around them so they aren’t bumping into anything while they work. A table covered in the newspaper is ideal for this purpose; just make sure that it won’t be too difficult for your kid’s little legs to stand on it comfortably!

Stack Of Books Birdhouses

Making a birdhouse from a stack of books is an easy craft for kids to make. The supplies you need include.

  • A set of small hole punches (1/4″ is ideal)
  • A hammer and long nail

The first method is to use a drill bit that’s slightly smaller than your book binding peg, which will allow you to make holes in the middle of each page.

Once all of your pages are punched through and holes drilled through the covers, place them on top of each other so they’re aligned vertically, then glue them together with hot glue or construction adhesive. You’ll now have one large “book birdhouse.”

To finish it off, add some decorations like paper beads or ribbons around the edges!

Mailed Birdhouse Craft

To make a birdhouse out of a paper plate, you’ll need.

  • A paper plate
  • A pencil or pen (to trace the outline)
  • Paint (optional)

For this craft, you’ll use the traditional method of cutting out the top and bottom of the paper plate. Next, poke holes in each corner of your birdhouse using a thumbtack.

Once you have poked all four holes, thread some string through each hole to create an opening for hanging. You could also use a fishing line instead if you want it to be sturdier.

Finally, decorate your house in any way that you like! You can paint on designs or even glue on feathers around the outside edge for decoration purposes if desired!

Cardboard Roll Birdhouse Craft

This easy birdhouse craft uses a cardboard roll from a roll of paper towels.

First, use a toothpick to make a hole in the middle of the tube (or use a pencil if you don’t have one).

Then cut out a circle of paper that is slightly larger than the opening and glue it over the hole. Use markers or paint to draw doors and windows on your birdhouse!

Toilet Paper Roll Birdhouses

This birdhouse is the easiest to make, and it’s also one of the most popular birdhouses out there.

You can use it as a craft project for smaller children, but even older kids will enjoy making them! All you need is

  • A toilet paper roll
  • Paint or markers (optional)

Clay Pot Flower Pot Birdhouse Craft

  • Use a clay pot
  • Use a flower pot saucer
  • Use a plastic birdhouse
  • Use a small stone, twig, piece of wood or cardboard.

Assemble your materials and find the best place to hang your birdhouse. You can use fishing line or string to hang it from a branch or nail it onto a tree. Make sure that you choose branches that are strong enough to hold up your creation!

Paper Plate Round Barn Birdhouse Craft

This craft is one of the easiest birdhouse crafts for kids. All you need to make this cute and fun paper plate round barn birdhouse craft is a paper plate, a marker, and a hole punch.

  • Draw the outline of your barn on the back side of your paper plate with your marker.
  • Use a hole punch to make small slits for windows, doors and chimneys along your drawing lines.
  • Cut out all these shapes using scissors then decorate as desired with glitter or markers or paint!

Mini Bluebird House Kids Craft

Materials needed

  • 1/2″ plywood scrap
  • 4 small wooden dowels, cut to 6″ lengths
  • 1 piece of wood, 4″x5″ (if you don’t have one, use the scrap piece)

Tools needed.

drill with a 3/8-inch bit (or the size of your dowels) and a 1/4-inch bit (for hanging)

Steps. Drill holes in two opposite sides about 3/4 inch from each edge for the dowels to fit into. Make sure they’re parallel to each other; if not then your bluebird house won’t stand up straight!

Paint the entire birdhouse white—you can even paint on some details like eyes or beaks with markers if you’d like!

Use a pencil or marker to trace around your pieces onto paper so that when you glue them down later they’ll stay put perfectly centered in place without any trouble at all

this is especially important if working on something bigger than just this mini version because once dry it could get hard as a rock trying again without ruining things the first time around..
