7 outdoor games for 1 kid

7 outdoor games for 1 kid

As kids, we looked forward to summer. It was the generous gift of three solid months off from school and, as such, required a sizable list of activities to fill all that free time. The problem was that many of the games we wanted to play required at least one additional child. Thankfully, adults have invented a few single-kid games for outdoors that will keep you occupied for hours on end.

Jump Rope

Jump rope is a fun way to get exercise, but it can also be played indoors or outside. Use your jump rope anywhere and enjoy the fresh air. Jump rope with your friends, parents, siblings, and teachers too!

One player stands in the middle of the rope while the other players take turns jumping over him or her. The object of the game is to not get hit by the rope and to last as long as possible. The game is over when the player in the middle is hit by the rope or when he or she can no longer jump.

Hoot Potato

Hoot Potato is a game that requires one child and one ball. The goal of this game is to hit the ball into the opposite side’s field goal. If your team hits more than half of their shots, then you win!

Play begins with two players on either end of an empty field with a ball between them. Both players start by tossing the ball back and forth until someone throws it too high or low; this person then loses possession of the ball, which is then picked up by his opponent and thrown back into play again. The team who scores the most points wins!

frisbee

Frisbee is a great game for kids to play, as it doesn’t require many toys or equipment. It can be played in the park or backyard, and even in a small garden area if there’s enough open space.

  • You will need: one frisbee
  • How to play: Throw the frisbee back and forth with your child.

This is best done while standing at least 3 feet away from each other so there’s enough time to catch the flying disk before it hits the ground (if you’re playing on grass). If you have more than one child and they’re old enough not to get hurt by catching this plastic toy, then they can also join in.

Hula Hoop

The hula hoop is a game that’s fun for kids and adults. You can buy the hula hoop at any toy store. You can play with your hula hoop in the backyard or park. If you have friends, you can play with them too!

The game starts with one player standing in the middle of the circle, holding the hula hoop up to their waist. The other players stand around the circle, holding hands. The player in the middle starts spinning the hula hoop around their waist. As they do this, they start walking clockwise around the circle.

The other players start walking around the circle in the same direction. The goal is to keep the hula hoop going around the waist without letting it fall. If the hula hoop falls, the player who was holding it has to start over. The first player to make it around the circle wins the game.

kickball

Kickball is a fun team game that’s also great for kids. Unlike baseball, where strikes are counted by the number of pitches thrown, in kickball, each player gets three strikes before being out. In the field, there are three bases to reach (first base, second base, and third base).

You’ll need at least four players on your team to start a game—the more players you have, the more fun it is!

It’s easy to get started with kicking around a rubber ball: all you need is plenty of space and an understanding group of friends or colleagues who want to play along with you. If there aren’t enough people already playing kickball at your local park or school playgrounds when deciding whether or not this should be your next outdoor activity choice for your kid(s) then maybe consider starting up one yourself!

Soccer Ball

The soccer ball is an outdoor game for 1 kid. You can play soccer ball with a friend, or you can play soccer ball by yourself. The best way to play soccer ball is with your family, especially if they’re playing too! If your dog wants to join in on the fun, go ahead and let him do just that!

footballs

  • A football. Some sort of ball.
  • Other people to play with, preferably with a similar age range as you.

If you’re looking for a way to get outside and enjoy the sun while being active with your friends, family, and neighbors, football is a great option! Footballs are relatively inexpensive—you can probably find one in any sports section of your local store for less than $20—and are easy enough for the whole family to use together.

You can find outdoor games for 1 kid.

If you have a kid and only one, there are lots of games you can play with them. You can find some online, in toy stores, and at grocery stores even in thrift stores or garage sales!

Customize your game to the age and skills of your child by choosing the number of players (1), level of difficulty (easy), type of competition (no), and length of the game (short). No matter what kind of outdoor game you want to play with your kid—you’ve got nothing but options these days!
