Dolphins are playful and adventurous creatures that have a lot to teach kids.

13 Dolphin Craft For Kids

They love being active, playing with other dolphins, and spending time in the water. In this post, we’ve put together 13 dolphin crafts for kids that will help keep your little ones busy for hours!

Paper Plate Dolphin Puppet

Materials

  • Paper Plates
  • Paper
  • Scissors or Craft Knife

Instructions

Cut out two pieces of paper that are the same size as your paper plate (approximately 8 inches by 11 inches).

These will become the dolphin’s body and tail fin respectively. If you’re using a craft knife, be sure to use care when cutting so you don’t hurt yourself!

Paper Bag Dolphin Puppet

Making a paper bag dolphin puppet is easy, and you can use it to make fun stories with your child. This craft requires only a few materials.

  • a large paper bag (the size of the bag will determine how big the puppet can be)
  • markers or crayons
  • scissors

To begin, cut off the top of the bag so that it opens wide like an umbrella. Leave some space at the bottom and then draw two eyeholes on opposite sides of the head area.

If your child would like to color in their own dolphin puppet characters, you can help them do so with markers or crayons, but they should be able to finish coloring by themselves!

Next comes stuffing: place some cotton balls in each eyehole and gently push them down into place until they are firmly formed around all edges of said holes (this will prevent any loose cotton balls from falling out).

Once ready

fold up one side of the paper bag mouth area into a triangle shape with the single pointy tip end down near the chin area.

look for resemblance to an actual dolphin’s mouth shape when looking straight ahead toward the front edge where the nose should be located above the nostrils(nostrils are little holes at the bottom center part where eyes meet the nose).

Gift tag of paper dolphin

To make the gift tags, you will need.

A sheet of paper (choose one that you like)

Scissors or a craft knife

To make a paper dolphin, first cut out two triangles from the sheet of paper. The top triangle should be about 2 inches wide and 4 inches tall; the bottom triangle should be about 2 inches wide and 3.5 inches tall.

Because we’re making dolphins that look like they’re jumping from water into the air, we’ll curve each triangle slightly so it has an arc shape rather than straight sides.

Cut out a small circle for the fin at one end of each dolphin’s tail (you can use another piece of scrap material or even fold over part of one side).

If your kids want to use different colors than our example above, now is their chance! Draw eyes on both sides just below where they’ll be attached later on when finished with gluing everything together!

Diving Dolphins

Materials required.

  • Paper
  • Color crayons
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Paint and paintbrush (optional)

For the paper dolphin, draw a circle on the paper. Cut it out and glue it to another piece of paper with a different color on one side. Cut out fins, tail, and snout from black paper.

Glue them around your dolphin’s body to make him look like he’s diving into the water! Use markers or crayons for colors if you want a more realistic look!

Handprint dolphin craft

Making a handprint dolphin is an easy craft that your child will enjoy. They will love having their hands involved in the creation of this fun dolphin craft.

Children may be able to make this alone, but you can also help them out by showing them how to do it.

Here’s what you need.

  • Paint or crayons (or markers)
  • Paper or cardboard

Tissue paper dolphin craft

  • To make this craft, you will need:
  • Tissue paper in different colors and patterns
  • Glue or tape to hold the tissue paper together (optional)
  • White crayon for the face (optional)
  • Black crayon for the tail and fins (optional)

Pasta dolphin craft

Whether you have a toddler that is interested in crafts or an older child who wants to learn, the pasta dolphin craft is a great way to get everyone involved.

This craft uses simple materials that are easy to find and manipulate, making it the perfect choice for any member of your family.

Pasta can be found at almost any grocery store and is inexpensive too! You can use any kind of pasta you would like; spaghetti, penne, shells, or rotini would all work well with this project. The best part about using pasta for crafts?

It’s super easy to paint on and glue onto surfaces with water-based paints. Pasta also doesn’t leave residue behind when painted which means no mess left behind after your kids are done creating their masterpiece!

When dry these creations will last much longer than other types of paper or cardboard pieces may last because they aren’t as fragile (they won’t tear easily).

Plus one reason why we love this craft: it’s fun (and tasty) for children AND adults alike!

Paint chip dolphin craft

Materials

  • paint chips
  • paint
  • spray paint (optional)

Method. First, you will want to collect a variety of different colors, sizes, and shapes. You can also add textures and materials like wood or cardboard.

You can do this by collecting them from around the house or looking for a local store that sells them. Once you have your materials ready, lay out the paint chips on a table or floor in an appealing way so they look good together.

Next, begin arranging each item until you find something that catches your eye (this should be fun for kids). If the desired spray and paint the backside of each chip with different colors if desired!

Painting for kids

Painters have been painting for centuries, and kids have been painting for at least as long. Adults may think that the best way to teach their children to paint is by using adult techniques and materials,

but in fact, many great artists were once children who were taught with kid-friendly methods and materials. Here are some ideas on how you can do this yourself:

Use a variety of paints. Offer your child a selection of different colors so that they can be creative! Try creating your own paint from natural ingredients like berries or bark from trees; these are more likely than store-bought products to be safe for children to use.

Use various kinds of brushes too—not just big ones but also smaller ones for detail work. Just remember that different paintbrushes have different uses; you don’t want to give your kiddo something he/she won’t be able to handle safely!

Make sure all containers are used to hold only non-toxic materials (if possible). Don’t let young kids near any kind of chemical unless they know exactly what they’re doing in advance–and even then it could still be dangerous if they miss something important while making choices about what goes where during their craft project!

Coffee filter dolphins craft

Materials, Coffee filters, White tissue paper (or another color), Glue stick, scissors, and glue (or double-sided tape)

Card stock or cardboard for the base of your dolphin. This can be any size you want it to be, but I found that a square piece about 4 inches tall is a good size for kids to work with easily.

You can also use regular paper taped together on two sides if you don’t have cardstock/cardboard.

The important thing is that there are at least four sides so that when you’re done make your dolphin craft look like this down below!

Fish & dolphins crafts from a paper plate and plate straws

Use a paper plate and straws to make fish, dolphins, and other sea creatures.

Cut the plate into a fin shape, then cut out fins from paper towel rolls. Glue them on one side of the plate before you paint it.

Make blowholes by cutting off the top of a straw so it’s flat with one end pointed. Paste this onto your dolphin’s head as its mouth (or use another shape for an orca).

Cut another piece from your straws to make tails for your fishy friends or whales (use different shapes for different species).

For some fun with preschoolers, glue on googly eyes at different heights on each eye socket to give your fish personality!

Bottle cap dolphin card craft

Materials

  • bottle caps (with lids) – you can use at least 2 dozen of these small and colorful objects
  • paint (different colors) – you’ll need a rainbow of paints, but it’s okay to experiment with different shades of the same color
  • glue stick or white craft glue – this helps hold the bottle cap firmly in place on your piece of paper

Instructions

Paint the bottoms of your bottle caps in two or three different colors. Leave some space around each one so they won’t overlap when they’re arranged on your paper (or card).

When all your caps are dry, write down a message on one side using a permanent marker or a pencil if you want to erase it later; then turn over each cap so it’s facing upward again and add glue around its edges for extra security – remember not too much!

A Fun Way To Engage With Kids!

Dolphins are one of the most popular animals and for good reason. They’re intelligent and playful, they’re mammals that are warm-blooded and live in water,

they socialize with other dolphins, and they have an impressive brain capacity. Not only that, but dolphins are carnivores!

This craft is a fun way to engage your kids in learning about dolphins. You can make it as complex or as simple as you want based on their age (and yours).

Conclusion

We hope you enjoyed these fun dolphin crafts for kids. We tried to include a variety of different types, so there’s something here for everyone! Some are easier than others and some will take more time than others but all are guaranteed to be fun for both children and adults alike.
