11 Kangaroo Craft For Kids

These unique creatures can’t be found anywhere else in the world and they make for amazing animal-themed crafts!

Kangaroo Puppet

Materials needed

  • 2 pieces of felt, each cut into one large rectangle and 9 smaller rectangles
  • A piece of yarn for the tail

How to make it.

Lay all 10 felt rectangles on your workspace with the right sides facing up. Using a sewing machine or needle and thread, stitch along three edges (the shorter ends) so that you have three open sides left on two sides and four open sides left on the other two sides,

creating an opening in the middle of one side and two openings along each long edge. Stitch around both openings until they are closed up completely. Turn inside out so that you can see what it looks like when finished!

Cut out two circles using a stencil as templates; cut one slightly larger than the other to create an eye socket difference between them if desired. You could also use a small circle cutter tool or scissors for this step instead if you don’t have access to stencils or circular craft punches!

Use fabric glue (or hot glue gun) to secure eyes onto face pieces before putting together rattle body parts: stick eye sockets over top edges where ears will go later; then stick ears onto bottom edges where eyes will go later;

finally, put the muzzle piece over the top edge before closing up the final hole by stitching across the bottom edge again once more time (this time only through the outer layer). Stick tongue under chin strap end — this part should be glued shut since there won’t be any more openings after this step!

Toilet Paper Roll Kangaroo

Toilet paper roll kangaroos are a fun and easy way to keep kids entertained. The only supplies that you need are.

  • Toilet paper rolls
  • Paint (optional)
  • Scissors or a knife (if using paint)
  • Cut the toilet paper rolls in half. You will use one half for each side of your kangaroo’s body. If you want to make it easier on yourself, draw two lines on each side with a pencil first so that you know where to cut it into halves later on.

Kangaroo Footprint Art

This is a great craft for kids who like to get messy, or who have just learned how to draw. It’s also great for preschoolers and kindergarteners because of its simplicity.

You’ll need.

  • A large piece of paper (at least 24″ x 36″, but you can always cut it smaller if your child’s feet are too small)
  • A kangaroo template (you can print one out here)

Make A Kangaroo Mask

Materials, Paper plate, scissors, crayons, or markers

Instructions: Draw on the kangaroo’s eyes, nose, and mouth using crayons or markers. For example, draw two large circles for the eyes. Then draw a rounded triangle shape for the nose and a curved line for each side of his mouth (like this).

Draw on his ears by drawing triangles that point downward at the top of each ear (like this). Draw a curved line down one side of each ear to make it look fluffy like real kangaroos’ ears do!

Finally, give your little one some paper plates and let them decorate them with their own designs. You could even cut out some petals from other paper plates if you wanted to get more creative!

Kangaroo With Bubble Wrap

You’ll need a piece of bubble wrap, a cardboard piece (from an old box or something), and a marker.

  • Trace the outline of your kangaroo on the bubble wrap.
  • Cut out the shape you traced with scissors and punch holes for sewing where needed, if necessary.
  • Use your stapler to attach two pieces of string to each ear so that they can be tied together when you wear it as an ornament!

Handprint Kangaroo

Make the kangaroo’s body by tracing your child’s handprint onto a brown paper bag. You can use one of those bags you get at the grocery store or an old grocery bag from your kitchen.

Cut out the handprint shape from the brown paper bag.

Cut a tail shape out of a red paper bag, using scissors to cut around its edge and then cutting it into smaller pieces with some scissor practice.

Cut two ear shapes out of green paper bags (you might have to tear them apart first), then thin each piece down until they’re about half as wide as they were originally cut.

Paper Plate Kangaroo

  • Cut out the body and head of the kangaroo.
  • Cut a paper towel roll in half for the tail.
  • Draw two eyes on the kangaroo using a marker, as well as its mouth and ears. You could also use cotton balls for these features if you can’t draw very well!
  • Draw feet with markers on each foot or make them by cutting slits in shoe box lids and gluing them onto your kangaroo’s feet (make sure they are wide enough so that they don’t slip off).
  • Use markers to draw hands at both ends of your kangaroo’s arms (they should be about halfway down from its chest).

Cowboy Hat Kangaroo

Materials

  • A piece of cardboard or thick paper
  • Paint and paintbrush, optional
  • Scissors, optional
  • Glue and/or tape, optional

Instructions.

The first step is to draw a kangaroo’s face on your piece of cardboard. If you have an extra-large piece you can make two kangaroos! You could also make one large kangaroo mask by cutting the face from another sheet of paper or cardboard. Draw the outline using straight lines for the ears and mouth, then fill in with dots for the eyes, nose, and whiskers.

If you’d like to add detail to your drawing use a dotting tool or toothpick dipped in black paint for pupils/eyes and red paint for tongue/nose dots/whiskers etc.

Paper Bag Kangaroo Craft

Make a kangaroo craft with paper bags.

Use a paper bag to make the shape of a kangaroo with colored pencils. Paint the head white and draw on dark brown ears and arms with a ruler.

Draw on two big black eyes and glue them on. Cut out small triangles for the nose, mouth, eyebrows, and tail tip by cutting off one corner of each triangle so they look like ears. Glue them in place on your kangaroo’s face.*

Popsicle Stick Kangaroo Craft

To make this popsicle stick kangaroo, you’ll need.

Popsicle sticks

About 15 to 20 depending on the size of the popsicle sticks you choose. You can also use colored ones if you want to add some color to your kangaroo but they’re not necessary.

Hot glue gun

Optional but recommended. If you don’t have one, it’s best to just use regular school glue as it will dry faster and won’t be as messy as hot glue is likely going to be around kids!

Black marker

A black marker makes it easier for children who are new to drawing animals or even people in general because there aren’t so many different shades needed like there would be with watercolors or crayons
